I figured I would share what I learned with everyone else, since I know there are others out there that also are beginners like myself.

If there are any problems (or if you know a better solution/shortcut to make things go quicker, please let me know!)

frame stop command: stop();

easter egg/replay button: Keypress can be up, down, or left (if there is no next button, you can use right. Likewise you can set next to any one of those if you want)

on (press) {
_root.gotoAndPlay(number);
}
on(keypress"<direction>"){_root.gotoAndPlay(number); }

previous button command:

on (press) {prevFrame(); }

on(keypress"<left>"){prevFrame(); }

(You can also use the _root.gotoAndPlay() command here)

next button command:

on (press) {
nextFrame();
}
on(keypress"<right>"){nextFrame(); }

Webpage:

on(release){
getURL("insert url here", "_blank");
}

Edit:

Something else I learned after I made this - If you fill in things like buttons and what not, they become completely clickable instead of having just the outline being clickable

You need to have an actual number in place of the # for it to work

Yeah, I did put the number too, and turn out I still have an error. I tried it on both macromedia 8 and flash, still it wouldn't work.

I'll have to see if I can dig up my version of flash and see if I can figure out what the issue is (sorry that I didn't get back to you right away!).

Let me know EXACTLY what you are putting into flash so I can see if I can replicate it (or screencap the issue for me)

how do you GET a flash animator?
Reply
:icondragontrap:
dragontrap Featured By Owner Jul 4, 2012  Professional General Artist
You mean the program or someone to animate for you XD ?

But no, seriously, there are two ways of going about getting Adobe Flash:

1) Legally - Buy the program from adobe or at least download the trial version and then pay for the full version

2) Illegally - Torrents or other means of pirating the software (which is not suggested by any means, because doing so means you are aware of the fact you are stealing from a big corporation, and it can get you into hot water if you are caught).

Well, so long as you found a workable solution, then it's all good (and no one ever admits to do something illegally, except politicians, and they get away with it 98% of the time)

Does it have to be on a Windows or PC computer? All I have are Macs, which are awesome, but I want to know if I can do this on a Mac...

hey man that's really nice, but could you give me one little help? on the line that says

on(keypress"<left>"){prevFrame(); }

or the

on(keypress"<right>"){nextFrame(); }

I keep getting this error:

Scene=Scene 1, layer=Layer 2, frame=1, Line 2 ',' expected

what does that " ',' expected " means?

Not exactly sure, you may have to play with the coding to see if it fixes itself

Hello again. I just found out the cause of my error: the Flash project should have been written in ActionScript 2.

I used ActionScript 3 which is experimental. This is probably why I can't make actions for my buttons.

Food for thought for anyone doing a flash webcomic for the first time.

I also stumbled came across the net to discover this nifty little piece of code which can perform "next" and "previous" button actions. However, its point and click with a mouse:

on (release){gotoAndStop(#);}

Just replace "#" with the number of the keyframe of the comic. Works like a charm.

Though in my opinion I rather use your codes using the arrow keys. I just mentioned this if anyone out there wants it.

Anyway, thanks for the tutorial!

I did the rest and it went well until I got stuck at "buttons".

I drew an arrow (next button) at the "controller" layer at keyframe 1
I then converted it to a symbol, choose "button", then made center active.

When I went back to keyframe 1 - Controller layer, opened script command (F9) and entered "next button" command script by copy and pasting yours in your description.

Tested it. Result shows that the movie keeps playing all my keyframes over and over.

What went wrong?

I actually went back and checked in Flash, and it seems that yes, yes you CAN import into flash image files. If you open up file, then hover over import, there will be an option to import into the stage :3
